225/45 R17 sports car tyres
For sports car tyres, the speed index, grip and precise handling matter most, and for many cars so does the car maker's homologation. This page opens with 225/45 R17 – set your own size in the filters or find it by vehicle. Read the guide

Speed index and ZR
The speed index is the letter after the load index: V means up to 240 km/h, W up to 270 km/h and Y up to 300 km/h. Choose an index no lower than the car maker specifies: Latvia's roadworthiness rules require the speed index to be adequate for the vehicle's technical parameters. The letters ZR in the size (225/45 ZR17) mean the tyre is designed for speeds above 240 km/h, while the exact limit is given by the speed index; if it is in brackets, such as (Y), the tyre is also rated for over 300 km/h. See what the letters R, B, D and ZR mean.
Homologation and rim protection
Many car makers test and approve specific tyre models for their cars, and these carry a homologation mark on the sidewall: MO for Mercedes-Benz, ★ for BMW and MINI, AO for Audi, and N0, N1, N2 for Porsche. It is not a legal requirement, but such a tyre has been developed and tested together with the car maker; the Homologation filter finds them. The Rim protection filter shows tyres with a raised rubber rib that reduces kerb scuffs on alloy wheels.
Summer compounds and the cold
Sporty summer tyres use a compound designed for warmth: tyre makers state that below about +7 °C it stiffens and grip drops, and in frost such tyres can crack. Change them in good time and store them somewhere warm over the winter. When fitting, follow the rotation direction or the outer side (outside) marked on the sidewall – Latvia's roadworthiness rules prohibit mounting tyres the other way round.

225/45 R17 is a common size for sportier compact and mid-size cars. Many powerful cars have different sizes at the front and rear – then the tyres cannot be swapped between axles, and both sizes need checking. For this size in summer, see 225/45 R17 summer tyres.
